FAQs

Are all of your tutors qualified teachers?

Yes! We pride ourselves on ensuring that each child has a suitably qualified and exceptional, experienced teacher who is up to date with any curriculum changes and is an expert in the field.

How do I find a tutor?

An initial consultation is offered free of charge either via phone or email with one of the specialist Katie Jayne Consultancy team to establish exactly what each individual is looking for. We then ask you to complete the new starter form and a Katie Jayne team member will personally match teachers according to the needs of each individual child.

How do I contact tutors?

You are able to contact teachers via email or phone once the contract outlining the terms and conditions has been signed.

Where are lessons held?

Lessons are usually held in your house. It eases any travel you may need to do and we find it works really well for children to focus and feel comfortable in their home environment. Occasionally some of the older children may meet tutors in a public place, such as a library or suitable study place, but this will be agreed with parents beforehand.

How do I book a lesson with a tutor?

In your initial consultation you will let us know your preferred days and times for lessons. We then try our very best to find a suitable match from our teaching professional team who can fit into your ideal time slots and then your weekly lessons will be timetabled in. This is not always possible due to the high demand of our teaching staff, however we do also have a waiting list in place.

How often should we have a lesson?

This is entirely a personal choice, but remember the brain is a muscle so consistency is key! Our current clients have either once or twice a week sessions (this usually increases nearer to exam times but again this is completely your choice).

Do all tutors leave feedback?

Yes, after every lesson  you will receive an email outlining a summary of the lesson via our tutoring software, TutorCruncher.

How do I pay for the lesson?

Booking and paying for Katie Jayne Tutors lessons has never been easier! As a customer you complete the secure link to set up your payment method.  You will then receive a monthly confirmation invoice notifying you of the hours completed with the tutor. The email will also confirm the date and time that the lessons took place. Payment will be automatically processed after the lessons have been completed.

Is the site secure then, if I leave my card details?

Of course! We use Go Cardless as our third-party payment platform. Go Cardless are PCI compliant, so you’re protected from fraud, and can we issue refunds without any cost to you.

Can I pay the tutor directly?

While you think it is faster, it elevates your risk and you lose all the benefits of Katie Jayne Tutors policies. Paying the tutor directly is NOT secure nor protected.

If you do pay a tutor outside of the Katie Jayne Tutors website you will not be protected by our cancellation policy or our refund policy. We also cannot protect you from fraud or spam accounts.

Before messaging a tutor you are required to sign our contract outlining our terms and conditions.  Any loss of earning would be considered a legal matter.

Katie Jayne Tutors is designed to introduce exceptional, fully qualified teachers to customers. We help and support students to get the best out of their learning experience.

If you make any arrangement with a tutor that you were introduced to through Katie Jayne Tutors, either for tuition or payment, you will have broken our terms and conditions.

In this case, neither the tutor or customer (parent or student) will be protected or covered, as mentioned above.

For more information about payment please refer to our terms and conditions.

Are there any additional charges?

We want to offer you the best experience at a competitive price and in order for us to ensure we meet our strict criteria of recruiting the right teacher for you, we charge a one-off joining fee of £120 which will be added to your first invoice.

What do I do if I’m going to be late for the lesson?

If you are running late for a booking then please do let the tutor know as soon as possible because the tutor may still have to finish the lesson at the scheduled time, depending on his/her availability.

However, tutors will usually try to make up time lost at the end of the session for the intended duration, although it’s important to note that this is at the tutor’s discretion. Tutors will usually wait for 30 minutes, but again this is at the tutor’s discretion – tutors may well have to leave at the original time for another lesson.

If you are late for the lesson, tutors will charge for the full amount that has been agreed and confirmed. We operate a 48 hour cancellation policy, which means that if you cancel the lesson with 48 hours you will be charged the full amount.

You can always call or email us in the office if you’re running late and we will try and speak to the tutor and inform them.

Will I receive a part refund if the tutor is late?

If a tutor is late for a lesson then it is the duty of the tutor to arrange to make up the lost time by finding a time that suits you both, either on the same day or another mutually convenient time. Usually the tutor will make up the time during the lesson. For example, if the tutor was 30 minutes late, they would stay an extra 30 minutes at the end of the lesson.

If this is not possible you can then either ask the tutor to make up the time at the next lesson, or contact us and we will arrange a partial refund for you.

If the tutor fails to do this then please contact us via admin@katiejayne.co.uk and we will respond to your dispute within 48 hours, if not sooner.

Do all Katie Jayne Tutors hold a valid DBS certificate?

Yes. All tutors must have a valid DBS certificate.  However, once we’ve checked the tutors DBS, we are not responsible for keeping it up to date.

What is a DBS?

A DBS (Disclosed Baring Service) is a way of checking tutors. Katie Jayne Tutoring performs a background check, and a police check. We make sure that all tutors are suitable to work with children and adults. The DBS replaced the CRB.

What is the cost of a lesson?

Lesson costs vary slightly depending on different subjects taught. Prices range from £90 to £65 per hour. Please contact us directly on 01932 843036 or email us at info@katiejayne.co.uk for further information.
